The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) is a network of partners committed to helping water operators help one another improve their collective capacity to provide access to water and sanitation services for all. AfWA as a regional Water Operator Partnership (WOP) platform in Africa has been chosen by GWOPA for the implementation of two WOP project financed by OFID up to 250,000 $ over three years in Malawi and Ethiopia.

Goal

Implementation of short-term Water Operators’ Partnerships in order to help operators achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make progress on the realization of sustainable Access to drinking water for all.

Objectives

Develop and implement short term, thematic action plans and develop medium-term Sustainable Improvement Plans (SIP).

Implementing partners

OFID

The OPEP Fund for International Development (OFID) is the Funding organization of the Project

GWOPA

The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) is a UN-Habitat program has been mandated for the monitoring of the implementation of the project under funding agreement with OFID.

EWS

The eThekwini Water and Sanitation (EWS), a unit of the eThekwini municipality has been chosen by AfWA as mentor according these achieved performances efficiencies in its operations that have resulted in significant improvement in various performance indicator.

AAE

The African Water Association (AfWA) has been mandated by GWOPA to facilitate the project. AfWA provide financial and technical support for this partnership to be implemented.

Duration

The full duration of implementation of the project is two (2) years, from June 2019 to May 2021.

The African Water Association (AfWA), is a Panafrican leading organization in reinforcing capacity building of water and sanitation utilities and recognized as a regional Water Operator Partnership (WOP) platform in Africa.

For a better knowledge sharing of successful experiences in the management of water services, the African Water Association (AfWA) initiated since 2008, the partnership program of Water operator in Africa (WOP-Africa) giving rive to exchanges on current best practices in the water sector between the most experienced operator (mentors) and those with the lowest performance (mentees). Thus, over the period 2009-2014, several partnerships on water have been implemented in various themes and especially on the reduction of non-revenue water (NRW).
