PRESENTATION Who are we ? Aware of the importance of their role for promoting Health, Hygiene and safeguarding the Environment; Guided by the desire to promote the Drinking Water, Sanitation and Environment Sector in the interest of African peoples; Convinced that cooperation and exchange of the information will contribute to the development of the sector and to solving its problems; Attached to the principles of Rio and Dublin on Sustainable Development and sharing the United Nations resolutions and recommendations, especially those on the international Drinking Water Decade… A professional ASSOCIATION known as AFRICAN WATER ASSOCIATION ( Acronym AfWA) formerly Union of African Water Suppliers since February 1980) was established in April 2003 among Organs, Establishments, Enterprises or Utilities operating in the Drinking Water, Sanitation and Environment sector in Africa. ObjectivesTo coordinate the search for knowledge and latest development in the technical, legal, administrative and economic fields for Drinking water production, supply and of sanitation To promote the exchange of information on methods, processes and procedures of drinking water production and supply and sanitation To initiate, encourage and promote any action of cooperation and exchange in professional training. The ActionsThe ASSOCIATION furnishes members with results of research and inquiries conducted in all branches of activities in water production and supply and in sanitation. The ASSOCIATION maintains close ties with all regional, national and international Agencies devoted to the problems related to drinking water and sanitation. The ASSOCIATION organizes international congresses, seminars, workshops and technical sessions. The OrganizationThe Congress meets once every two years and brings together all the members, international organizations and experts. During these Congresses, technical sessions are organized to discuss on various topics. The General Assembly brings together all the members of the ASSOCIATION, once a year and ratifies the decisions or proposals made by the Executive Board The Executive Board manages and represents the political entity of the ASSOCIATION. It proposes the actions and the decisions to be discussed by the General Assembly. The General Secretariat of the ASSOCIATION is the permanent structure in charge of administrative, accounting and technical management of the ASSOCIATION. AfWA Communication is the communication department of the ASSOCIATION. It publishes technical and scientific bulletins as well as a directory of members and other associates every year. The Scientific and Technical Council , through specialized committees of experts, organizes technical sessions in order to discuss various problems encountered in the water and sanitation sectors by the members of the ASSOCIATION. Individual MemberAny individual dealing directly or indirectly with the Drinking Water sector and Sanitation in Africa. Honorary MemberAny person or organization, who has been very helpful to the ASSOCIATION and which by its action contributed effectively to its development.
